Elmwood Community Foundation Scholarship Fund
An annual competitive scholarship is awarded to a graduating senior from Elmwood High School. Student applications are are read and voted on by the ECF Board of Directors.
New2U Thrift Store
The mission of New2U is to strengthen our community by providing local families with household necessities, educational opportunities, and local activities through Elmwood churches. New2U sells donated housewares and clothes, and all profits go back into the community. The largest percentage of funds generated by sales/donations goes to graduating seniors of Elmwood High School who are seeking trade school education. Since 2021, $20,000 in scholarships have been awarded.
MANNA Meals on Wheels and Monthly Congregate Dinner
MANNA volunteers deliver an average of 160 meals per month to residents of the Elmwood/Yates City area. An average of 40 individuals enjoy the monthly sit-down meals served at the United Methodist Church of Elmwood on the last Thursday of each month.
Phelps Barn Preservation
The Phelps Barn was built around 1845 by Wm. J. Phelps, the founder of Elmwood. It is a well-documented component of the Underground Railroad.
The Phelps Barn is also supported by a specific Phelps Barn Endowment Fund that was established to ensure this significant part of local American history is preserved for future generations.
Elmwood Summer Youth League
The Elmwood Summer Youth League has long been a cornerstone of summer in Elmwood. The league serves 150-200 ball players (boys and girls) on average per season. Teams range from T-ball to 15U for boys baseball and girls softball. Donations support everything from player equipment and field maintenance, to plans for batting cages and bullpens for the 2027 season. Plans are being explored for free off-season clinics to keep players engaged in the game year-around.
Dale Runyon Memorial Scholarship Endowment
This endowment supports graduating seniors from Elmwood High School, in their pursuit of degrees in math and engineering. As a retired Caterpillar engineer, and former ECF board member and officer, Dale volunteered tirelessly, demonstrating the impact "volunteers" have on their communities.
Elmwood Community Foundation Endowment
This endowment was established to provide ongoing, long-term financial support for ECF programs and operations.
Elmwood Community Foundation General Fund
The ECF General Fund supports the administration of the ECF as well as support of community initiatives and events, that includes, but is not limited to, the annual John Pettit Memorial Ruck 22 Walk, Elmwood Strawberry Festival, EHS White-Out, Mighty Mack Foundation and local mural artwork.
